Su actividad antioxidante ha sido estudiada casi exclusivamente por medio de pruebas qu\u00edmicas para poder usarla con fines de conservaci\u00f3n de alimentos.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>OBJETIVO \/ M\u00c9TODO: El objetivo de este estudio de quimioluminiscencia amplificada con luminol (LACL) fue investigar si el timol puede interferir con la producci\u00f3n de especies reactivas de ox\u00edgeno, \u00f3xido n\u00edtrico y peroxinitrito derivado de \u00f3xido n\u00edtrico liberados por neutr\u00f3filos humanos despu\u00e9s de la activaci\u00f3n por fMLP y PMA con y sin la adici\u00f3n de la L-arginina (L-Arg) donante de \u00f3xido n\u00edtrico al medio.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>RESULTADOS: La concentraci\u00f3n m\u00e1s baja de timol que todav\u00eda estaba activa en la reducci\u00f3n de LACL fue de 2.73 \u00b5g \/ ml, y hubo una inhibici\u00f3n lineal progresiva de LACL de esta concentraci\u00f3n a 21.87 \u00b5g \/ ml, la concentraci\u00f3n m\u00e1s alta de timol investigada. Esto tambi\u00e9n se observ\u00f3 en el caso de la estimulaci\u00f3n tanto de fMLP como de PMA con o sin L-Arg. En los sistemas libres de c\u00e9lulas utilizando H 2 O 2 \/ HOCl -y SIN-1 como productores de radicales, una actividad de eliminaci\u00f3n significativa de timol ya estaba presente en 0.08 y 0.68 \u00b5g \/ ml respectivamente, y estas son concentraciones muy bajas.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>CONCLUSIONES: Estos hallazgos pueden estar relacionados con la estructura fen\u00f3lica del timol, porque los compuestos fen\u00f3licos tienen propiedades redox y juegan un papel importante en la adsorci\u00f3n y neutralizaci\u00f3n de radicales libres y peroxinitrito, y en la descomposici\u00f3n de per\u00f3xidos. Nuestros hallazgos en neutr\u00f3filos humanos son farmacol\u00f3gicamente relevantes, ya que implican que el timol es un agente antioxidante y antiinflamatorio potencial en las c\u00e9lulas humanas.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Braga, P.
