Los fitoqu\u00edmicos, los segundos metabolitos de los alimentos, protegen las c\u00e9lulas neuronales de la muerte celular en modelos celulares de trastornos neurodegenerativos, y la actividad neuroprotectora se ha atribuido a las funciones antioxidantes y antiinflamatorias.<\/p>\n<p>En este trabajo, se investig\u00f3 el mecanismo celular de neuroprotecci\u00f3n por fitoqu\u00edmicos, utilizando el modelo celular de apoptosis mitocondrial inducida por PK11195, un ligando de la prote\u00edna translocadora de membrana externa, en c\u00e9lulas SH-SY5Y. PK11195 indujo la permeabilizaci\u00f3n de la membrana mitocondrial con la producci\u00f3n de tr\u00e1nsito r\u00e1pido de super\u00f3xido (flashes de super\u00f3xido) y la liberaci\u00f3n de calcio de las mitocondrias, y la v\u00eda de se\u00f1al de apoptosis activada.<\/p>\n<p>El estudio sobre la relaci\u00f3n estructura-actividad de la astaxantina, los derivados del \u00e1cido fer\u00falico y los lignanos de s\u00e9samo revel\u00f3 que estos fitoqu\u00edmicos inhib\u00edan la permeabilizaci\u00f3n de la membrana mitocondrial y proteg\u00edan a las c\u00e9lulas de la apoptosis.
