El berro es una fuente rica en isotiocianato de fenetilo (PEITC), un agente quimiopreventivo eficaz para los c\u00e1nceres de pulm\u00f3n y es\u00f3fago inducidos en roedores por nitrosaminas, incluido el carcin\u00f3geno espec\u00edfico del tabaco 4- (metilnitrosamino) -1- (3-piridil) -1 -butanona.<\/p>\n<p>Se cree que el PEITC inhibe la carcinog\u00e9nesis de nitrosamina en roedores al inhibir enzimas espec\u00edficas del citocromo P450 (P450). Entre los P450 implicados en la activaci\u00f3n de estas nitrosaminas se encuentran miembros de la familia 2A. Las muestras de orina analizadas en este estudio fueron las mismas que usamos en un estudio anterior (SS Hecht et al., Cancer Epidemiol. Biomark. Prev., 4: 877\u2013884, 1995), en el que demostramos que el consumo de berros aument\u00f3 niveles de dos metabolitos de 4- (metilnitrosamino) -1- (3-piridil) -1-butanona: NNAL y su glucur\u00f3nido NNAL-Gluc. Este aumento se atribuy\u00f3 a la inhibici\u00f3n de los citocromos P450 o la inducci\u00f3n de la glucuronidaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>En el presente estudio, cuantificamos la nicotina urinaria y siete de sus metabolitos. No hubo efectos del consumo de berros en los niveles de nicotina, cotinina, trans-3\u2032-hidroxicotinina, \u00e1cido 4-oxo-4- (3-piridil) butanoico o \u00e1cido 4-hidroxi-4- (3-piridil) butanoico, indicando que la ingesti\u00f3n de berros tiene poco efecto sobre el metabolismo oxidativo de la nicotina (presumiblemente por P450 2A6 u otras enzimas P450) o que estas enzimas no son importantes para el metabolismo de la nicotina y cotinina en los fumadores. Sin embargo, el consumo de berros result\u00f3 en un aumento significativo en comparaci\u00f3n con los niveles basales de glucur\u00f3nidos de cotinina (25%, P = 0,031) y trans-3\u2032-hidroxicotinina (33%, P = 0,043) durante el per\u00edodo en que se consumi\u00f3 y en un aumento no significativo de los niveles del glucur\u00f3nido de nicotina. Estos niveles volvieron a los valores de referencia despu\u00e9s del per\u00edodo de consumo de berros.<\/p>\n<p>Hubo una correlaci\u00f3n entre los aumentos en los niveles de glucur\u00f3nidos de trans-3&#8242;-hidroxicotinina y NNAL en los mismos sujetos, lo que sugiere la participaci\u00f3n de una enzima com\u00fan.<\/p>\n<p>Por lo tanto, los resultados de este estudio sugieren que PEITC u otro componente del berro induce la actividad de UDP-glucuronosiltransferasa en humanos.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hecht, S.
